Marriage and covid, an incompatible union?

The couples who were waiting for 2020 to pass the ring on their finger seem to be in bad luck.

The couples who were waiting for 2020 to pass the ring on their finger seem to be in bad luck. Since March, the situation has continued to become more complicated, making event planning perilous and uncertain. Getting married in times of Covid, an impossible process? Gilsa Paris takes stock to help you get organized in this time of confusion.
Getting married, yes, but not everywhere: a geographical puzzle
France: towards a second confinement?
The arrival of winter makes many people wonder: are we heading towards a new generalized confinement? If the memories of the month of March 2020 are still very present in people's minds, there is nevertheless little chance that the State will again ask the French to confine themselves. In any case, not at the same time.

This is due to several reasons. With time and the increase in testing capacity, it is now easier for the authorities to identify sources of contamination. Therefore, confinements become localized around a certain area, allowing the rest of the country to continue living.

Additionally, since the outbreak began, scientists have learned more information about the virus and its transmission. From now on, the country is better prepared: stocks of masks, easily accessible hydroalcoholic gels and adoption of barrier gestures by the population will make it possible to avoid an excessively intense spread.

Thus, the exceptional situation of spring 2020 should not be repeated - at least not on the same scale.
Where can you get married in France?
The calm of the summer gave the opportunity to newlyweds to marry without too many problems. But autumn and winter bring with them their share of changes and new rules.

Given the rapid evolution of the situation, if you wish to reserve a date to get married, you must contact the regional administration to keep you informed.
Wedding parties not recommended
On September 23, 2020, Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, communicated new rules. Until now, marriages were authorized in most departments. In contrast, many areas had banned wedding parties. In other words, couples could unite in front of their families and friends, but could not celebrate the event with a party or a dance party, as tradition dictates.

If wedding parties continue to be discouraged, or even prohibited in certain areas, new measures have been announced concerning the ceremony itself.
Weddings in small groups for the most affected departments
From September 26, all private events of more than 30 people are prohibited in the departments on red alert (you will find the list below). This measure also applies to weddings. In addition, for departments on heightened alert, the limit drops to just 10 people.

Difficult news for couples about to unite, since drastically reducing the number of guests is far from an easy task.

Here are, as of September 24, 2020, the red zones of France:

Paris, Seine et Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Val-d'Oise, Loiret, Indre-et-loire, Côte d'Or, Territory of Belfort , Saône-et-Loire, Doubs, Calvados, Seine-Maritime, Eure, North, Pas-de-Calais, Bas-Rhin, Haute-Marne, Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Sarthe, Maine-et-Loire, Loire -Atlantic, Ille et Vilaine, Gironde, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Vienne, Hérault, Aveyron, Tarn, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Gard, Tarn-et-Garonne, Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude, Rhône, Ain, Puy-de-Dôme , Loire, Isère, Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches du Rhône, Var, Vaucluse, Corse-du-Sud, Haute-Corse, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, Reunion, Mayotte.

Here are the metropolises concerned by the heightened alert (included in the red zones of France, but with more active and monitored traffic): Paris, Lille, Toulouse, Saint-Etienne, Rennes, Rouen, Grenoble, Montpellier, Bordeaux, Lyon and Nice.

Outside of these departments, future brides should have less difficulty getting the ring on their finger, since the limitations on the number of guests do not apply there.
Assessment of the Covid-marriage situation in France
To summarize, there are 3 situations depending on the geographical location:

• It is possible to get married in departments that are not in a red or reinforced zone. On the other hand, it will be difficult to organize wedding parties (inquire with the local authorities)
• Weddings in the red zone are limited to 30 guests
• Weddings in heightened alert zones are limited to 10 guests.
What are the anti-covid rules to be applied during wedding ceremonies?
Who says marriage in times of Covid also says barrier gestures to be applied. In order for everyone to feel safe, guests must respect the following rules:

• Wash your hands as often as possible, especially when entering and leaving the wedding ceremony
• Respect a social distance of at least 1 meter between guests
• Wear a mask

Due to the number of guests, weddings are considered to have a high risk of transmission of the virus. It is therefore essential to respect the rules, in order to maximize the comfort of all.
How to prepare for your wedding in times of Covid?
It's never too early to start preparing for your wedding. Of course, the current situation makes planning very difficult. However, just because you can't set a specific date doesn't stop you from moving forward on other things. Try to see things on the bright side: by spending less time on the logistical and temporal aspects, you have more time to reflect on the aesthetic and creative facets.

So, take advantage of this time that is offered to you (or more exactly imposed) to create a unique wedding that looks like you.

In exceptional circumstances, exceptional measures. Between limitations, barrier gestures and new rules, organizing your wedding can look like an obstacle course. This does not mean that uniting before the law is not possible: even if the pandemic has reduced the number of marriages, young couples continue to brave the uncertainty and instability of the moment to formalize their union. Viruses, masks and antibacterial gels do not prevent love from being celebrated and expressed daily.

If the current period brings its share of frustrations and disappointments, remember that these rules are put in place to protect the entire population, including you and your loved ones. From now on, the recipe for a successful marriage includes beautiful clothes, a good dose of joy, and also a good touch of personal responsibility, in order to live this moment in all serenity.
